Why did we choose the theme “Innovation vs Humanity: How Humane Are We?”

In most countries, the education system is geared to produce all-rounded individuals who will lead their nation towards greater heights. The human experience is literally changing day-to-day as new developments in the field of medicine and technology create solutions to seemingly insurmountable global challenges. Are our students prepared to deal with the uprising world of innovation on the pretext of bringing success to mankind? Will they know when to draw the line and strike a balance? This brings us to the theme of this conference, “Innovation vs. Humanity: How Humane Are We?” The importance of humanity cannot be denied in the pursuit of excellence. We cannot emphasise on innovation alone. Obsession with innovation will lead to exchanging material progress for cultural harm, resulting in chaos and anarchy. Innovation should properly be understood that is, a change that pursues a moral good.

We will focus on 2 areas namely :
l  Animal Rights
l  Chemical Evolution

COMPETITIONS

There are 3 (three) competitions that student delegates can take part in and compete to win prizes, namely,

Poster Competition
Participating schools are required to draw a poster on the theme “Creating Awareness : Cruelty Towards Animals in Traditional Medicine and Cosmetics”. The poster should be submitted during the conference to be displayed and judged on by independent judges. Posters that are submitted will not be returned to the participating schools.

PowerPoint Competition
Schools that are interested to take part are required to send in their abstracts on the topic, “How Can Innovation Go Hand-In-Hand with Humanity”. Schools whose abstracts are selected will have to make a power point presentation in the most impressive way to win the judges’ hearts. The presentation will be held during the conference. Each school is allowed to send in only ONE team of 4 students.

SISC Idol 2015
Each school is allowed to submit only ONE name for this competition. Interested participants must bring along their minus-one CD/pen-drive to be played during the competition. May the best vocalist wins!

Details of these competitions will be sent to those who indicate their interest in participating once we have received their registration fees and confirm their registration. Please do indicate your interest in the competitions in the registration forms.

Delegates will have the opportunity to visit our school and enjoy a Penang Heritage tour cum shopping trip and savour our world-renowned Penang Food. The conference will end with a farewell dinner.  Delegates are invited to present a cultural performance displaying the diversity of song and dance from their own countries at this function.

This conference also gives an opportunity for teacher delegates to present papers on the title ‘My School Best Practice’. Details of the Teachers’ Session will be emailed once we have received your registration forms and fees. A certificate of participation will be given to these participating teachers.

Schools may also bring their creative products or souvenirs produced by their students to be sold at stalls set up on the last day of the conference that is 3 June (Wednesday).

During the “My Voice” session, delegates are given the opportunity to voice their opinions regarding the conference (e.g. areas that should be maintained or areas that need improvement) or any topic/issue related to humanity.

We are confident that the delegates will benefit from this conference and urge you to encourage your students to sign up as soon as possible.

REGISTRATION FOR THE CONFERENCE

The registration fee per delegate for the conference is USD 350 (for foreign delegates) and RM 900 (for Malaysian delegates). Teacher delegates will also need to pay the registration fees. The registration fees include a 5 day - 4 night accommodation at Hotel Jen Penang, meals as shown in the programme, airport transfer, farewell dinner, conference bag and a T-shirt (short sleeves).

Delegates will be responsible for their own travelling expenses to Penang, Malaysia and back to their own country. Registration forms must be submitted by 30 March 2015 (Monday) together with proof of payment of the registration fees. Please refer to the registration forms for the relevant bank account numbers to facilitate the transfer of your fees.
